How good is a stock A4?

How good is a stock A4? My A4 just went out and the previous owner had a shift kit and a complete rebuild done before I picked the car up. The car has always shifted kinda funky but it finally gave up the ghost yesterday. My question is how good is a NEW GM A4 be? I can pick one up for $1400.00 and it includes a 3yr/100k warranty. Would I be better off looking at something that Dr. Evil, Finish Line, etc.. offers in that price range.

Built ones crap out all the time and they certainly don't come with warranties like that. What mods does your car have and what do you have planned? If it is stock and going to stay stock, it may make more sense to go with a stock trans.

That is true. It is also true that the user can take steps to make it live longer...IE if you are going to use N2O don't spray through the shifts, don't go WOT into or out of OD, etc...
