There's a port right above the shifter linkage on the driver's side of the tranny. Remove the bolt in that port and replace it with the sending unit. You'll need some extra wire to hook up the power/ground/lighting.

Or you can weld a bung into the pan. Or get the temp gauge manifold from Autometer and install it in one of the cooler lines.

cool, thanx guys i plan on installing it later today just wanted to know whats involved. Sounds pretty easy as far as ground and power i was just going to tap into the radios ignition power wire and ground it on the frame as far as the light goes i was going to tap into the light for the gear selection so i can have the dim feature.

I take it your not installing it on the pillar by your choice of wiring locations?

But installing it in the cooler line will Not give accurate temp of trans internals. Use the port above the linkage

I'm thinking he meant the lines going from the tranny to the cooler...those cooler lines....not the return lines.

Hey guys I got the gauge in and it works great just wondering what temp is normal for these transmissions. I have a 3200 stall and a cooler. I started the car and let it run for 10 min and the gauge was reading like 210 when i shut it off. I also check it with the tech 2 and it said that the fluid was 89 Celsius. So does this mean the gauge is inaccurate?

89*C is 192*F Depending upon where you installed the sensor could make up most of that difference (192-210).

I got a question for some of the other guys if there is a similar place (above linkage) on the th-400?
