What tuning with a Stall on 2001?
Just wondering on a 3200 /2.1 stall, what you would recommend on tuning,,, I know with a 2001 the TQ management, shift points, firmness, etc. but what about "idle hunting"? I hear a stall, even a 3200 will cause idle hunting due to the mass weight of the converter... any help is appreciated. I will be getting it installed in about a week, so I want to be prepared to explain it to the tuner...Thanks

the guy that tuned my car for the stall removed tqm (my choice), adjusted my shift points, deleted a few transmission related codes, and upped the idle to 750. my car has never hunted for an idle, it would get a little confused coming to a stop and cause the idle to bobble once or twice.
i have a 4k stall.

The oscillation-like response with the RPM sounds like a IAC motor issue. I think I messed with my airflow decay to get rid of that.
It shouldn't really hunt for an idle as our cars use adaptive idle/variable spark timing, right?
I have heard it is better to remove some but not all TM. Is there any truth to that? What I heard is that if all TM was removed it would be rough on the trans during a shift.

I did speak to a tuner briefly prior to this post about the TQ management and he recommended removing some but not all... I didn't ask him about idle hunting as I've seen it before in other 2001. Thanks for your comments

Mine does the same thing, RPM's drop and it can go up and down a bit until you come to a stop. Almost dies down at 300rpm or so but never has. It started after my header install though, slowly and now it's a lot worse with the converter so I don't think it helped the problem any. Feels like a tuning issue but then again I hope my O2's aren't going out on me...

Mine dies alot, also when goin in reverse and just once when coming to a stop, I was looking at an hptuners write up and their is something to fix the problem I believe.
Idle Tuning
To set idle speed go to VCM Editor>Edit>Engine>Idle>Idle RPM>Target Idle RPM vs. ECT table and change cell values to desired idle RPM. If idle RPM is modified up or down, the VCM Editor>Edit>Engine>Idle>Base Running Airflow>Idle Airflow vs. ECT table must be adjusted up or down also.
If a lean idle condition is present modifying VCM Editor>Edit>Engine>Fuel Control>Open & Closed Loop>Idle Proportional Fuel Tables = Off will most likely eliminate it and any low RPM surging.
This info should be credited to someone else btw...

PT4000(Yank) convertor,Diablo Predator(Hand Held) tuning/adjustments.
I have the idle hunting issue. I had it with the Vig3600 and the SS4000. Has more to do with the weight diff from the stock, to a aftermarket vertor.
Aftermarket being much lighter/easier to rev,and that mess's with the idle.
Now take it out of gear and that all goes away.(No problems in P or N. )
Can be fixed with tuning FOR SURE.
Mine is a 2000,but i think it should be no diff for you.
