Should the tranny come out of a extended cab or regular? Someone said that the extended cab has a longer tailshaft????

There are two tail housing types and three tailshaft types.
All tail housings are the same except for the ones with the brake on the tail. The ones with the brake on the tail also have a 3/4" or so longer tailshaft.

Most tail shafts have a bolt on yoke, you can replace it with only a th400 type slip yoke on these. The th400 yoke does not have splines all the way to the opening.

There is a slip yoke only tailshaft that cannot use a bolt on yoke, it has splines the whole length so you can use a 4x4 slip yoke that has spline all the way up to the opening.

This does not include the short 4x4 tailshaft.
