Default 4l60e vs. 4l80e

ok, so i bought a 6.0l with 4l80e attatched motor had 5 miles on it (yes 5, vehicle was damaged in transit to dealer, i bought the motor and trans only with all accesories and ecu and whatnot) here is my question, its gunna be a swap into my little s-10, how much bigger is the 4l80e if it is any bigger at all, and is it worth keeping or selling and trying a 4l60e? i already have a 4l60e in my s-10 with a 4.3l, what are your thoughts?

The 4L80E will give you a little more beef.

The 80e is over a 100 lbs heavier. It will handle a lot more power, but it has crappier gearing and eats more power. If you are planning to make a lot of power like nitrous or forced induction it works great. Otherwise I would stick with the 60e built up.

The 4L80E has closer spaced gears...

4L80E: 2.48, 1.48, 1.00, 0.75
4L60E: 3.06, 1.63, 1.00, 0.70

The 4L60E gives you a big launch in 1st, but the 4L80E gives you less RPM drop going into 2nd and into 3rd (and into 4th if you get that far).

Just a thought. I have heard that jet makes a 6 speed kit for the 4l80e. That would be one sweet setup!
