I have a 4l80e in a 68 impala behind a 6.0 and if I get on the freeway and run for any length of time or pull a steep incline at low speed it shifts late and very hard for a few miles then is ok. I donot have t temp gauge on the tranny but the water temp seems to stay around 192.
