That seems kinda high, find out what they charge for the removal and installation of the tranny itself without rebuilding it. FLT 4L60E level 4 is $1850, I have never used an FLT tranny, but I have heard they build some damn good trannies.

Do NOT spend $1800 at just any tranny shop for a "rebuild". They are blatantly ripping you off. Walk away and head over to www.finishlinetrans.com .......
You'll thank me later.

I agree they are trying to rip him off, but where is the question. If the removal and installation of the tranny is $1,000, then $800 is a good price on the rebuild. However if the shop only charge $100-200 for removal and installation then they are ripping him off on the rebuild.
If he gets an FLT he will still need to have someone remove his old tranny and install the new one, unless he does it himself.

Go FLT for sure, and if you can just take the tranny out your self and put back in the new one, or just have someone tell/help you do it. You will save a lot of money, and will definately be pleased with the FLT!!!
