Default Anybody Running a ST3500 w/ 3.42 gears...

I'm planning, and have been, on getting a ST3500 since it's such a proven converter and fits my bill perfectly. I've got 2.73 gears stock, and a buddy of mine has recently removed his 3.42s and posi and put in lower gearing, and offered me his 3.42s and the posi for a good price. I'm definantly wanting to take advantage of this, the reason being that my car shifts into 3rd about 100' before the traps and falls on it's face. I know the converter alone will help this, and I'm still contemplating doing just the converter, but with getting the gears at such a good price, I find myself hard pressed to not take advantage of it. I know it'll hit hard and I'd need at least some ET Streets to hook at the track, but is it possible to pull a 1.6x 60' with the gears, converter, lid, and cutout? Or am I looking at more 1.7x range (I'm guessing so). Should I possibly look at a Vig3200 or a SY3500 instead since I'd have gearing on my side? Thanks for any help on this.

Also, what is a good tranny cooler? I remember looking at a B&M 24000 or something like that. I live in TN and it gets pretty hot in the summers, and doesn't get too cold in the winters (teens at the lowest). Thanks for any help.

If you can pick the gears up for a good price. Get them. If nothing else you can resell them after the converter install if you don't like them. There are many cars running around with the ST-3500 and 2.73 setup and the owners love it. The ST-3500 will be great with more gear. But you will need tires to hook it. You could easily see 1.6 60ft's with it. Yes, the B&M 24Kgvw SuperCooler is a good choice for a tranny cooler.

Sweet!!! I'll have to get teh exact price, and I'll probably go ahead and get the converter and install it before I even buy the gears. If I'm happy with the ST3500/2.73 combo I'll stick with it, if I feel it needs a bit more I'll go ahead and pick the gears up. Thanks for the help guys.
