I finally got my 98 back together and running, ran great and as I was getting it off of the trailer at Mufflex, the stock flexplate broke in 2 peices (just my luck)
Anyhow, I was hoping someone here can help me get the info I need to have a custom flexplate made ( http://www.reactorproducts.com ) Everyone I spoke with says they are a reputable place that deals mostly with Olds stuff. Anyhow, when I called, he knew exactly what i'd need for the 400 but didn't seem to know what I needed for an LS1
He wanted to know the inner diameter of the flexplate where it slides over the crankshaft and also the bolt patten. I don't know anything about anything so I might have miss understood what he said. I do know that I need a 168 tooth, externally balanced (to stock specs) flexplate but thats about it. Any help is appreciated.
Also, if someone has or knows where I can get a used/abused stock flexplate in good shape for cheap, please let me know. Mine is in two peices so he says he can't really use it as a template?
Any help is appreciated, thanks much.
If anyone cared to see pictures of the swap, http://jim.fbody.com/th400/thumbs.htm

I had the same problem I cracked 2 flexplates so far.
I'm just using stock units but a aftermarket flexplate is what we need. If you email me and give me a number of the guy that is willing to build us a strong flex plate I'm in.
BTW: Our LS1 motors are NOT externaly balanced!!!
Email me.

I think I have a stock flexplate as well...should I worry about it taking a crap on me...I currently am running a "5000" converter...
As soon as I get to like 3300 rpms at like 65 that son of a bitch vibrates like hell...

so the stock one is 0 balance then?
I just ordered a stock flexplate from Dal at van devere just to send it out to the guys at reactor as a template. I assume that once they build one for me to the right specs, they should be able to build any number more to match the LS1 bolt pattern and such. Cost on the stocker is 70 and cost of the reactor flexplate is 250. HOPEFULLY the only reason it broke was the factory weakness and not some external problem that will just break another one. :/
I'll also ask them to send me any measurements/info they would need to build another flexplate without having an original around.
