whats the difference between the 4l60 and 4l80

Default whats the difference between the 4l60 and 4l80

I read that a stronger 4l80 was used in trucks.....obviously someone will tell me the differences and why it isnt better for our cars

4L60E is like a PCM controlled 700 R4, 4L80E is like a computer controlled and overdriven TH400. Physically bigger and has less attractive gearing for drag racing (althought I think a 3.06 first may be available). I think stock 1st is like 2.45 with a 2.75 available.

The 4L80E is basically a electronically controlled TH-400 that also has better internals.

2.48 first gear for one, and the other reason is size and weight. Also, consider that as these cars are designed and produced, the 4L60E is more than adequate. It's when us 'oddballs' try to put 450-500HP through one that it becomes a problem.

I researched this tranny as I'm one of those guys that will soon have about 500/500. It takes a little bit of custom fitting it into the tunnel (not bad at all though), and it's a little heavier.
BUT, it's almost unbreakable and it works perfectly with your factory computer (after sending it to Ed Wright) or they supply a complete computer with all wiring harnesses.

check into it, there awesome and they work perfectly when installed right. They have allot of people who have successfully done this.

If I break my 4L60E, I'm ordering one immediately.
