well my second 4l60e just burned up, and i am really pissed right now because i let it break in right it only had about 600 miles on it. i just don't understand what its problem is, but i'm tired of this so i am thinking about doing the th350 swap. but how strong are th350's compared to stock a4

I would call whoever repaired/replaced the last one. They definately missed something. They fixed the symptom and not the cause of the problem. We need more info. What exactly is the transmission doing? If it wasn't so late I could think better, but there are companies that make near-bulletproof 4l60s like Rock-On, have heard nothing but great things about them. Not sure on the strength differences, but nearly anything will be strong and will last a long time if built right.

i use it for a DD most of the time, the dang car hasn't even raced anything yet. hasn't even been to the track yet. but i don't want to have to go through all this again...atleast for a while anyways. i am very serously thinking about taking it to a place where a buddy of mine took his and it is great with about 6000 miles on it now. and hasn't had any trouble other than a seal leaking when he gets on it. and i think his done the same thing mine did and it was 475 to fix it if i pull it.

You pull a bad trans have it fixed and you put it back. Do anything to the cooler?
Flush it out, check for clogging or ruptured tank?
You can buy and install the best built, most expensive transmission you can find but if something as small as a bad cooler is the problem than the new "bulletproof" STAGE 5 LEVEL 10 (WHATEVER THE HELL THAT MEANS)4L65E is going to last just as long as the stock one or a $100 backyard special.
In other words find out what was bad. In fact you should flush the cooler and cut the converter open no matter what went wrong with it.

Have a pressure gage connected to the next trans that goes in that car before you even put the key in the ignition.

To flush the cooler I take a 3' or so long piece of 3/8" hose clamped to the cooler supply line. Blow the fluid out of the cooler. Route the hose upward and fill it with brake cleaner, lacquer thinner, mineral spirits, or any fast evaporating solvent and blow it out with high pressure air (120 psi). Do it until it comes out clean. If it's real dirty you can blow it out the opposite direction too or just get a new cooler.

I'd keep an eye on the line pressure at start up too.

Not to argue but what exactly do you mean by inexpensive.
Those are $12 a can of 11.75 ounces. Plus wait time for the order.

A 14 oz can of brake cleaner is less than $3. A gallon of mineral spirits or lacquer thinner is around $12. All can be used for general clean up later.
I guess I'm assuming everyone has an air compressor and a length of 3/8 fuel hose will get used up for other things (or just eat the $4 to $5 for that), I guess I could be wrong on those last two.

Inexpensive means it costs $8 (if you look around) for one can and you only need one can. You don't need an air compressor to do it and the worry of disposing of lacquer thinners and such when your done. I bet most tranny shops carry it and yeah i guess you might have to wait a couple days if you order it. If $8 is to expensive then I don't know what to say.
