a friend of mines th400 seems to not want to use the trans brake when he presses the button... what should we look for to see what the problem is?

I would start by making sure that the transbrake button is hooked up correctly. If I'm not mistaken, one side of the transbrake button goes to the ignition and the other side goes to the transbrake solenoid. The solenoid receives its ground through the transmission.

Does the solenoid click at all when the button is pressed?
If yes: Then its either the solenoid or VB.

If no: Then check the switch, 12v power on one side, with 12v out to the noid. Noid should be grounded (either to the trans or chassis).

Are you getting power to the switch?
If yes, then check solenoid to see if it is getting power.
If no, then trace power source, check wiring, fuse.

If solenoid is getting power then it should make an audible click...
