Hitting the rev limiter???
The other night i was out with some friends and messing around on the freeway, and basically everytime the tranny would downshift from 4 to 2 at around 60-70 mph it would bounce of the limiter twice before shifting to third. I assumed it meant my clutch packs were going bad and i wouldnt be suprised i floor it everyday when merging on the freeway but the weird thing is it doesnt do it in the middle of the day. Just wondering if any of you gusy knew whats wrong. could it be low on trans fluid? btw it has 23,500 miles on it.

i am having the same problem. except i was at the track and between every shift it would hit the limiter. i am NOT manuely shifting. i just put it in D and let it do its thing. Could the clutch packs be going out or is there anything i can put in to stop this. different servos, clutches, shift kit? sorry not trying to jack your thread, i just am having the same problem.

i dont downshift manually either jus leave it in OD on the freeway and slam it in when i race. I always think manually shifting automatics is bad for the tranny. So you think i should try adding a quart of fluid or changing it all together. I just think its weird it does it in colder temperatures.

My car did the same thing,it turned out to be a sprag (one way roller bearing) that had worn out.A good friend of mine has a tranny shop he said to drive it easy for about 500 miles no w.o.t. and see if it would clear up,mine never cleared up.We rebuilt the tranny and has never acted up since. I hope this helps.

yea stock converter. I checked the fluid today it was still a pinkish color and right in the middle of the cross hatched area but i checked it after driving stoplight to stop light in a high 80 degree day. I'm thinking of adding half a qt to a qt anyway any recommendations on what to put in or whats in there already? I'll try driving 500 miles without going wot but i dont think thats possible.

Im having all sorts of problems too. At first my car shifted hard and would bark the tires. Then I had a problem where it would bounce of the rev limiter before shifting going from 1st to 2nd, and then slip a little going into the rest of the gears. It quit doing that yesterday, and would shift hard again. Now today it slips into every gear. I have plans to change my rear end gears this weekend, but will go into the tranny shop on monday to see what they think is wrong. Might be time for a rebuild

I have the same problem. I took my car to the track for the first time yesterday and it would not shift from 2-3 under fully throttle. I checked the trans fuild and tried to shift manually and in 3 and od still had the same problem the only way it would shift is if i lifted off the gas. is there something in the computer that wont let the a4 shift under fully throttle. if anyone can help me please pm me. Thank you in advance.

If yes and it just started doing it after the swap, you're probably low on fluid. Same thing happened to me, fluid looked fine on the stick but would hit limiter on every shift. I tuned everything I could to fix it but nothing worked....so I added another 3/4 quart of fluid and all is well!! Make sure you have 300-400 rpm buffer between your shift points and rev limiter too.
If you've had the converter awhile and it just started doing this and adding fluid doesn't help, you're probably due for a rebuild.

i have the same issue! so now i said F*** it! now i am putting in my Tremec TKO-600...
sorry guys! i cant find out the problem with mine either, well acutally it was the overrun clutches. but it rather have a manual with one big cluth rather than an auto with 9 small ones! good luck to everyone with their problems seing as the only advice i can give you is that maybe the clutches are going bad becuase thats what happened to mine!

it seams youre clutches are slipping with full throtle applied, thats how mine was and i kept racing like that just letting of a little till my 3 and 4 gears whent out, took apart found clutches gone burned due to slippage
