Question everybody with a STALL come inside!!!

ok what size stall do you have? do you like it? would you get it again if you had to do it over again or get another one? how bad did it affect your gas milage?

sorry about all the ?'s i just got a 99 z auto and know nothing about stalls,,,
the car is mainly going to be a street car, DD, with all bolt ons and either 3:73's or 4:10's!

With 3.73's or 4.10's I wouldn't go any lower than a 3600 IMO. I have a 3600 and if I was N/A I would have gone bigger (4400). The single best mod you can do to an auto guaranteed.

Also expect to loose some gas mileage.

the higher the stall the worse the gas milage around town fwiw. i'd say go at least 3500 but if it won't be raced all that much maybe just go for a little 3000 or 3200

not really losing much gas mileage. I would go with a 3500 and stay with 3.73s. I wish my first mod would have been the stall rather then gears, but you can't argu with the price of the 3.73s vs. the stall.

PT4000 DD and i would not change a thing.
Go big or you will regret it. Ride with someone who has swapped out convertors and see what works for you.

My gas mileage did not change ,gotta love the lock-up convertors.
In town i TRY to keep the r's down due to Borla /Hooker LT's and no-plate.

Can get a little highstrung sounding even at 35 mph,get LOTS of looks

Hey, not trying to steal the thread but I have a similar question. I was about to get a 3600 (to go with 3.73's) but my mechanic said its not a good idea to get a stall without upgrading the cam. Are you guys running stock cams? How would a stock cam work with a 3500 - 4000 converter.

you can see in my sig what i drive and what stall i went with.

i went with the 3200 to be more streetable. the difference between no stall and a stall is night and day, it really wakes up the car.

i just recently installed mickey thompson e.t. streets and the car hooks like a bandit.

since my stall has only been in the car for a few months, i can't say whether i would have gone bigger or not.
for the way i use my car i am happy with it for sure

Trouse...I would suggest you talk with Mike @ Yank, or John @ Fuddle, explain your mods now, and future, desired use for the car, weight helps, etc..they will recommend the right size stall speed/STR/ size diameter/type clutch etc.. I personally would not get X converter just cuz someone else did. There aren't as many variables as cam selection or gears etc, but still there is a lot to consider. Besides, both companies can tailor the TC to suit YOUR application.

xxtheonlyxx....I ran a 3000 Yank with stock cam...it was ultra nice. Bigger, I wouldn't know. But read above advice. In the end if your going cam etc, be prepared to put the info out there so the right TC can be made for you. Enjoy.

FWIW, I've run 3000 Yank, 3600 Fuddle, 4000 Fuddle and now a 4000ATI. The 3000 and 3600 handled the nitrous very very well. The Fuddle 4000 did pretty good, but the ATI 4000 is not good, its not built for the weight and nitrous etc.. Both Fuddle TC's rocked on the All Motor runs.

Thanks Cat, that info helps out a lot! All I have to do now is wait for a mesage from John about what converter to go with.

With a stock cam I would not go less than 3500. I have seen SOOO many posts by people who went with a 3000 or 3200 stall with a stock cam and have said if they knew the drivability would be so good they would've gone with a 3500 or 3800. I went with a 4000 at first with a stock stall but bumped it up to a 4400 with the Trex. When (not if, but when) I rebuild my tranny I will probably go with a 5000 stall (not sure of the brand yet). My car is my DD as I mentioned above.

Vig 3200 here (3800 stall speed, 2.17str). Have pulled several 1.66's with a raceweight of 3700lbs. Great street manners, any bigger wouldn't hook at all on the street. I have a hard time with this one and I have lca's, torque arm, ET street radials.

Generally I'd agree, however for the person that wants a very stock like car rather than the high winding track car the 3000 is a very good choice as long as the STR is right. I loved mine, pulled 1.5's with it on the bottle..but at that time the cam was pushing thru it, so it didnt drive for **** after the cam swap. Stock cam and juice is was great. Anyway...

Both of my F-bodies have been daily drivers and I'm a college student, so gas mileage is somewhat of a concern. Not a huge concern, but I have to keep it in mind still. The converter in my 00 Z28 was a Fuddle 3400 and it felt good with no tuning. About as loose as I'd want to go, but I was getting used to it. Would've been much more tolerable with some tuning.

On my current 02 Z28, I'm going to go with a bit smaller of a stall. Probably 3000, maybe 3200. I want to retain the stock "tight" feeling and still get some good performance.
