Default hot transmission

my tans temp gauge reads like 220-240 on hot days after driving for like a half hour. I have a 3300 stall and a transgo shift kit on a 4l60e. I put a tranny cooler at the same time all the other parts were put in. For the life of me i can not figure out why it is getting so hot and how to cool it down. Please help or I will have to drink myself stupid in the garage tonight

How big (gvw rating) is your tranny cooler? Where/how is it mounted? Did you bypass the stock cooler in the radiator or add the external cooler to it? Have you modified your fan settings at all? Need more info.

i am not sure of the size of the cooler it is like 1 foot by 1 foot. It is mounted in front of the air dam vertically, in front of the radiator. I have not messed with the fan settings at all and i did an add on cooler so i did not bypass the original cooler. I did put a 160 thermostat in last week, i don't know if that messes with the fan settings.

You sure you got the aftermarket cooler after the internal one? If you have it backwards, it would be useless as you would be warming the fluid up and not down due to the radiator temp.
Also, people mount them "dope style" under the nose thus giving it more air flow and not close to teh hot radiator.

Dave, I have mine screwed into a hole right above and over a bit from where the shift cable screws on at. This correct?

A couple of days and nights ago in the Hot humid 90 degree Chicago weather my trans temps reached a little past 225 degrees and it freaked me out completely. So I bypassed the radiator and used two B&M coolers, One mounted in front of the radiator and the other one mounted dope style. I then took an hour cruise with the car on the street and on the highway and my temps did not go over 150. When I pushed the car to its limits after driving it for more than an hour the hottest the temps got were about 165. I am really happy. Bypassing the radiator is the way to go! Trust me.
