locking TC through shifts?
Also my TCI 3500 has been in for a few weeks and yesterday on a highway cruise home the TC was locking and unlocking and really pissing me off.
Tuning or converter issues? I was cruising at 60mph and it would just unlock and not lock back up for a while. Sometimes unlock going up an incline. Sometimes when already unlocked it would lock back up going up an incline.
It pretty much locked and unlocked whenever it felt like it and I'm wondering what the problem might be.
Any info is appreciated
Thanks guys
Slipping up grade is what happens when you try to
run a much smaller clutch than stock, at stock
pressure. Too much time in slip and you will see
P1870 and no more lock until key off / key on.
Locking through shifts is not really that helpful.
Locking at top of gear -might- net you some MPH
though if the converter is relatvely efficient it is
not going to be a big deal. The SSF3500 is about
a 95% efficient piece at 6000RPM. If you locked
at 5000RPM (and could hold it) you would gain
maybe 10% at 5000, 8% at 5500, 5% at 6000
over unlocked. Gain 35, 25, 15HP in the moment.
If you had rear wheel torque vs MPH curves you
could pick the crossover point to best advantage.
If it makes the difference between trapping in
top of 3rd vs bottom of 4th or on the rev limiter
then that adds incentive.
It appears to me that some OSs will, and some won't,
actually lock through shifts or lock up at all during
WOT. Seems to be very mixed results with that and
no clear list of what model does / doesn't.
But the question you have to ask yourself is,
"Do I feel lucky?".
Thanks for the info Jimmy and BlackHawk.
