Default Reverse Clunk

Turbo 350 shifting into reverse the tranny "clunks" in the fwd gears no problem. the trans is rebuilt with 2500 miles on it. seperate issue when i adjusted the idle on the engine from 600 up to 900 it made the problem worse
any ideas

Sure that it is not a bunch of play in the rear end?

+1, my orginal rearend had play. about 220,000 miles on it though. young is on it with his reply. jack the rear up and move the tires back and forth. watch for delays in the drive shaft movement. if you can move the tires some way before the driveshaft moves you more than likely found the culprit. there you may even feel/hear the clunk and where its coming from. good luck.

it doesnt do it in Drive 2nd or 1st, just reverse is that possible?

yes...driveshaft worn out can also cause a nasty clunk

I know this is a super old post, but I’m having the same issue! Same deal. Reverse only, rebuilt about 2500 miles ago. What was your issue and solution? Anyone else have the same problem?
