Hughes, although they are not a sponsor on the left, are available thru a sponsor on teh left, so I guess it's o.k. to talk about them...... moderators delete this [post if need be.
Eastside has been using hughes converters in their customers cars, including the black car that ran 8.90, and the silver bullet that was running in the 8's a few years back. They have tested alot of differnent converters, and when it comes to service, performance, price and overall quality, they haven't found anything that they would rather put in their 8 second car then a hughes converter... they rank them right up with the top level convers (ie. neal chance, etc) That beign said.. if I were looking for a converter to stock in my car for a performance gain (let's face it, the only reaosn you put a converter in the car) I'd seriously look into a hughes, not one of the name's you hear on here all the time, but an option that should be explored.
I will have results from my th400 conversion car that's running a hughes converter and a built motor soon... the converter I have is a purpose built nitrous converter that was made to go to about 5200 with a 1000 rwhp nitrous setup, I suspect that with the power I'm gonna make on motor it should be around a 4000 give or take.. so we'll see how it does before the hose gets put to it... but I do expect it to perform very very well.

Anything but a Fuddle.............. their customer service is terrible, their attitudes suck, and they never return e-mails or phone calls..... they do not deserve anyones business when there are companies out there that actually treat their customers like you would expect.

My Vig 3200 is going in this week so I voted for PI. What you have to factor in to the performance/cost equation is the fact that PI lets you change your stall once for FREE as your requirements change. Thats like 2 for the price of one in the long run if you take advantage of it.

I voted for YANK because I had a pro yank extreme 4200 in my 98 Z28 with bolt ons and a dry shot. Went 11.05 @ 123 w/1.52 60' time. It would launch very soft yet get great 60's. It would pull the one front tire about a foot on launch and was very soft on my 10 bolt.

nitrous converter has different internals that won't ballon up when a massive tq apike happens, it basicially doesn't flash as high, but still stalls higher... not the best description, but that's the basics.
A converter that has a lower stall, like a 3000 would feel more like stock.. just have ot find one with an STR hat's a little higher. Talk to a couple converter companies abotu what you have for a car, what you want from it and where you are headed with it, they could probably give you some advise as to something that will feel like stock whem being babied and still flash up a little higher when you get on it.

I have tryed a Vig, Yank, in a 4L60e, and tryed a TCi, Fuddle, and ATI in a Th400. I honestly can't say that you will feel a huge differnence with each converter, maybe some slight ones.
I went the Forced Induction route, so I wanted to get a tight converter for my setup, so went with a $$$ ATI.

I like the vigilante converter alot. I have had my converter for 7 years now. I change the stall speed once. From 2800 to 3200 stall. Now that i upgraded my tranny it shifts alot better and quicker. Which really is a nice.

In my last two Camaros I have had to replace three transmissions because the torque converter went south and took the transmission with it. I finally found a converter company that makes a converter that will stay together when you throw some horsepower to it....Vigilante. I put a Vig 3600 in my son's street Camaro. He is cutting 1.3 60' times with it and yet it drives so nice on the street. I can only get low 1.5 second 60' times out of my Vig 3200 but my car weights several hundred pounds more and is on a smaller tire. I suggest you buy quality and not buy on price. If the converter comes apart and takes out the tranny have you really saved any money? Quality is cheapest in the long run.....

Love my Vig. 3800. Have had it for 6 years, and its seen 3 transmissions. Flushed it out, and kept using. Hasn't even been rebuilt yet. Works like a champ, and so does the lock-up. Car yanks the wheels at the track, everytime. Best 60' was a 1.52 on stock motor, with nitrous.

I have a PTC converter. You will find these in alot of race cars. Mine was built tight for nitrous and still got me a 1.63 60' last week with a TH350. I imagine I will see some high 1.5's on this converter and its only a 3500. These converters are under 400 bucks and come with anti balooning plates.
