This is a very old debate. I think the YANK converters are the most efficient. I also think they have many more problems with failures than VIG. TCI and Fuddle have shown good results, but not as consistently as YANK and VIG. I have never seen a VIG fail on anyone. I have always seen strong results with them.
I just ordered the stall for my car. I went with a vig3600. I had an offer to buy a YANK 4000 for $450 locally, but I'd rather have the reliable VIG.

When the lockup clutch goes out wouldn't you see some junk in the trans filter? Many times it is just a tuning issue. You could check that.
I bet when your friend sends it to PI he has no problems getting it warrantied if there is a problem.

just because you havent seen a failure doesn't mean they don't have problems.
Lockup clutches go out and wear out or if they weren't right from the get go from the factory.
I've have stories good and bad about every converter out there.
And no its not a tuning issue..

Sure, but their quality control is better IMO. I really don't care what a bunch of people in some message board with little experience with the parts say. I've had enough experience with them to have confidence in them. I just ordered mine.

I had a Yank SS3200 in my cammed LS1, no problems. And now I run their Pro Ext 3400 & no problems again. They both hit hard (see my 60' times below) & drive like stock. They are also very efficient (low temps, good mph)
I am also impressed with their service. They will talk to you about what is best, and build something special if you want it. They also stand behind their stuff. I had a leak & Keith told me to send the stalll back for a free repair if that is what it was. Turned out to be the front seal.

THATS BECuse you only been here a year.. no offense but look back to the 03-04-05 archives yank had lots of problems and people were mad..
that being said so has tci and fuddle (more recently)
vig seems to get more of a netural responce but earily on with their mulit disc units there were some issues too
finally i heard about warrenty being a good measure.. not really, think KIA best warrent crappy car right? also to warrent a couple hundred dollar converter when it takes out a $4000 transmission means nothing
personally i had a tci the 1st go arround because they were a reletively well match converter for what a stock 4l60e can handle.. again why buy a 1000hp rated converter when your tranny is gonna **** out at 500 and take the converter with it... also at that time (the ssf 3500 way considered one of the best)
now that im a little more in the game and planning on building a 1000hp capiable tranny for my future plans i think i will look into a $1000 converter.. at the same time i will definately not consider any company with a quality controll issue ... this is because id rather run .01 sec slower in the qtr and know my converter is a solid piece then have cutting edge technology that blows up and takes out an expensive tranny....
to conclude.. who the **** knows what to buy its kinda like the ford\chevy arguments.. the only real piece of advice i can think of as of now is try and get your converter and tranny from the same vendor.. that away when one takes out the other they cant play the blame game.. also if your buying a converter for a stock transmission DONT SPEND $1,000 for some super converter.. yea it has better parts but like i said above you will never need them (for the power levles a stock tranny can handle) and by the time you build a new tranny you'll want a new converter anayways (trust me)
also to add my little bit of bias approx 550bhp stock tranny ssf 3500 running strong

I loved my TCI up to this week. Problems with lock up. After more investigation, they have about a 15% return on the converters for our cars. I am VERY dissappointed. I will replace it with something else. Probably a Yank!!
