Default Stall speed vert requires a cooler ?

Hi, was wonder if anyone would mind confirming what I was recently told.
I am being told that since I installed a stall in my A4 that I need to install an external oil cooler for the trans.....and if this is indeed correct... is there a particular brand thats preferred ?? Local speed shop and NAPA has Hayden in stock.. 11 x 5 1/2 in. Any and all thoughts are welcome.
Lastly, I am not overly mechanically inclined, I can do simple stuff, alternator, starter, wheel bearings and so forth, is this somethat requires a higher degree of skill ? It doesn't look it, but that can be decieving.
Thanks !!

You absolutely need to put an external cooler on ASAP!! Heat is the #1 killer of automatic transmissions and aftermarket stalls build a lot of heat. Do a search in this section on tranny coolers, this topic has been covered in-depth many times. You'll find lots of information on which cooler you want (the majority on here run a B&M 24000gvw rated cooler) and there's also a few writeups on different ways to install them, all of which are very simple and straightforward.

wow, you put a stall in your tranny with no cooler? i wouldn't drive that car another MILE unless it was straight to the shop and i'd hobble the whole way there like a 90 year old lady. as jmm98LS1 said, heat is the #1 killer of the 4L60E. after that, i'm gonna say RPM's and power.

i can't believe you put in a stall without a cooler! they're only like $45-$50 if i was your tranny guy, i wouldn't have put it in without a cooler. get the BIGGEST one you can. B&M makes a good one.

Hmmm,...guess that answers that don't it. Consider your warning taken to heart, will do the "got search" thing and get it in this Saturday.
Thanks guys, apreciate the advice. Funny that neither of the "tuners" I talked to mentioned that at all when discussing stalls....

I ran mine a couple months before finally hooking up a cooler - B&M 24K is a favorite, and comes with everything you need - easy install.

Mine's been on the car "dope style" for a few years now - no problems.
