Default Difference in TH400 mount and 4l60e mount

What is the major difference in the tranny mount for the TH400's and the 4l60e? I am wondering if the 4l60e mount can be adapted for the TH400 tranny.

Also I talked to a buddy that ordered a TH400 and he was told that his M6 tranny mount would work. The only thing he would have to do is elongate the mounting holes about 1/16-1/8 of an inch.

Are you referring to the crossmember or the actual mount? If you're talking about the crossmember which is what it sounds like. Then I've heard on LT1 cars you can elongate the hole and it will work but you have to use a bunch of metal plates between it because where the tranny mount goes on the TH400 is much higher than where the T-56 goes. If I were you I'd just get a crossmember from BMR or yank. I have the one from BMR and it works perfectly. Only drawback with the BMR one is that you need a tq arm that doesn't mount in the stock location.

Will, when you say that you need a tq arm that doesn't mount to the stock location, are you referring to the stock tq arm mount on the tranny? I have a GW tq arm which mounts to the tranny crossmember. This will work correct?

Will, also, were you able to use the stock rubber tranny mount?

No That arm wont work with the BMR. You'd need the yank crossmember that has a provision for the stock mount on the crossmember I think. The only arms I know of that work with the BMR crossmember are the Spohn one that mounts to where the factory g-load brace goes. and the BMR trak-pak type that has it's own crossmember that welds between the subframe connectors (This is the one I'm running)

Talked to Brian at Madman today for awhile. He takes the M6 crossmembers and notches the holes ~1" to fit the TH400's. The problem that is created then is to how to mount the GW tq arm. Since the M6 crossmember goes back farther than the A4 crossmember, we talked about notching a cutout in the M6 crossmember and adding a piece of angle going forward and drilling a hole for the GW tq arm. I will get a M6 crossmember and try this when I get my TH400.
I also bought a dipstick tube that he has made that fits the TH400's and mounts exactly like the stock 4l60e dipstick tube. It's not cheap but it is better than having to feel for the dipstick with the Lokar tube.

Tim,

How is that dipstick? I thought about it a while back but didn't want to buy it without having some feedback from someone or some pictures. Let me know I need something for mine.

Thanks

I got the lokar one, and I don't have to feel with it, its actually in a better place than the 4l60e position...

The dipstick is made by the same people that make dipsticks for GM. Is is a factory type tube that fits the TH400 and mounts like the stock one and comes up from behind the engine and will look just like your stock one. Even has the locking dipstick cap.

Is it bent differently than the stock one or what? I changed the grommet on the stock LS1 A4 tranny dipstick on the bottom and it seals fine. Will this work or is it in a different position on the th400. I don't have both here to compare and the tranny isn't in the car to test fit

I think the problem with modifying the stock dipstick and making it fit in the TH400 is the TH400 pan is deeper than a 4l60's pan so you might get a false low reading on it. Not sure about this though. But I know on my Lokar dipstick that's made for the TH400 it says to make sure there is 2" of dipstick sticking out of the bottom of it.

Thanks for the info Will. I guess 70 bucks isn't too bad for the MadMan dipstick. I'll probably just buy one. I might measure mine first and have someone do a comparison measure on a th400 dipstick
