Default 2-3 shift hitting the rev limiter???

My A4 2-3 shift is set for 5800 rpm and the rev limiter is at 6800 rpm. On wide open throttle it is hitting the limiter and cutting out. My other shift points are at 6600 rpm. This has been doing this for two years and not gotten any worse. I'm missing out on alot of power and lower e.t.'s with my supercharged car.

Any idea what is going on or suggestions? Do you think I need a rebuild or its in the tuning?

Mine does the same thing...I have to lift from WOT for a second for it to shift into 3rd. My tuner and I spent about 2 hours trying to get it right...different shift points...etc...no luck. I was told it could be a shift solenoid or the clutch packs are going. Shifts fine when "normally" driving. Just wont shift under WOT. I dropped the pan to change the fluid and look for shavings...everything was OK. Took it to the track last friday and had to do the same thing..(lift 2-3 for a sec for it to shift) then about 100mph at WOT it started banging the rev limiter like crazy...so i backed off to half throttle and coasted across the line. I think the clutch packs are shot. I've had the 2-3 shift problem for about 4 months now. Just started throwing an SES light P1870 code. I'm pullin the tranny and going with a 4L80e. I hope someone can shed some light on the problem...I figured if I start replacing stuff in the tranny or have it rebuilt stronger I would be about half way to a 4L80e anyways...

You'd be halfway there. But don't forget that you'll need another torque convertor too.

Anyone else? Thoughts on the speed sensor circuit???

same thing happened to me, and turns out it was the clutch packs. THe shop i took it to said that the 4l60's are bad about this, so im getting one built to be a little bit more rugged

Mine does the same thing at times, usually at the track if I attempt to shift the car on my own or keep it in 'D'

This technique worked on my car and has worked on others locally

As you launch the car, have the shifter in gear 1. As the car launches tap the shifter up to gear 3 or D (depending on camaro or t/a). Be careful launching the car in 1st because the tires may smoke and the car will rev very fast, or you'll smoke them, shift too soon and the car may shift out early...this takes a lil finesse learning how to handle it and watch the tach. Thats how I run the car at the track and have never hit the limiter since.

When I'm on the street and able to hit 1st or 2nd from a roll, I downshift under a little throttle (not to engine brake) and as I punch it I bump the shifter up to 3 or D.

The guy I bought my car from told me this method and hasn't failed me yet. Good luck, maybe it'll work for you guys too.

Mine just started doing it after I got my drag radials on. Id pegs off the limiter a couple times then shifts. I guess cuz ive got traction now all I know is it sucks. Especially on my spray it can be dangerous. My buddy said he turned somekind of bolt inside the tranny somewhere one and a quarter turns to make it shift harder and it quit it shifts HARD! Of course he has upped line pressure with his tune and everything also.

This is a common problem among stock 4L60E's. It's caused by several different cotributing factors. The main 2 are high RPM pressure loss, and the "holding power" ability of the stock 3-4 clutch arrangement/design. We've went to great lengths to "cure" all the problem areas that cause this...as well as all the other design flaws/weak areas of the 4L60E.

Please send me a pm or some info on your "cure". I was just out street racing and pulling on a 03 Cobra and hit the frickin' rev limiter again. Loss for me. I had that Ford too. Damn it.
