Default Best Converter

I'm looking into getting a converter soon and was wondered what the best converter is. I drive my 2002 Ram Air daily and might go to the track 3 times a year. I was thinking of a Torque Thruster 2800 3.0 or a Yank 3000. WIll I notice any gain with one of these converters or should I just look at increasing HP

P.S. I hear 01-02 A4 have trouble locking up with a new converter.

The Yank 3000 is the smallest Yank I would consider for a car with 3.23 gears. A SuperYank 3500 would be even better since it is mainly for street use.

had the 2800TT yank and went from 13.1 to 12.8 argh... i didnt even notice the sucker in the car!!!!! If you get a stall you atleast want to fell it! Smallest yank like ragtop said should be a 3000 while the smallest vig should be a 2800 cause she really stalls to 3100 or so!

This past weekend I test rode in a Z28 with the ST3500. I loved it. I'm calling Yank today and ordering one

i have and love the 3200vig, and pretty much in essence it has a flash stall of near 3800 on a 2.5 str, although i got mine at 3.0. if you are opting for higher the 3600vig flashes to 4300.

My vote for a daily driver would either be the Yank Super Thruster 3500 or the Vig 2800 (stalls 3200). The Vig 3200 and Yank ST 3800 would be a step up, but a little severe for a true daily driver (although very tolerable).

I test drove a Z28 with the ST3500 but it had 3.73 gears. It felt like stock but the gears played a big part in that. I think I'll go with the Vig 2800, if I want more stall I can always send it back.

If my car was a daily driver, the Yank ST3500/3800 or Vig 3200 would be my choice. I had the Vig 3200 in my SS for a while, and it was in fact my daily driver (for only a short time). The converter is VERY streetable and makes the car a lot more fun to drive! I've ridden in a heavy '02 T/A convertible w/ 3.23's and the ST3500, and it's definitely a great street/strip converter as well. It performed excellent at the track! She was cutting the same 60' times as I was and running within .15 of my ET; her car had a catback, Suncoast induction, shift kit, and ST3500 vs. mine with FLP longtubes & ORP, lid, filter, catback, and Vig 3200. The car also tipped the scales right at 100# heavier than mine, so I was VERY impressed with the performance!
I'd highly recommend the ST3500 or Vig 3200 because I'll almost guarantee that you'll be wanting more stall very soon after the Vig 2800 is installed. I've been through 9 converters between two f-bodies (4 Vig and 5 Yanks), so I know how it goes.

You all make this decision tough I'm caught inthe middle of a Vig28800 and ST3500 tug of war. Has anyone here have a problem with the ST3500 not locking up? I hear the programing for the 01-02 tranny is a little funny about that with a converter.

I don't have any personal experience w/ the ST3500 in an '01+ car, but I didn't have any lockup problems when I had the Vig 3200 in my '02.

The '01 lock-up issue had to do with lock-up clutch shudder. Yank has switched to a different clutch to solve that. You could talk to Mike at Yank to find out the details.

Mr. Blue Fire is correct..when i had my Vig2800 installed in my stock 4L60e my tranny lasted 3 days with it in it. FRIED TRANNY...

So i sent my tranny to FLP to have it rebuilt to a level 4 and had my converter replaced with the 3200...

that is just MY personal experience

You need to post a) before consuming 12 or more beers, or b) after running a spell check.

LOL, no hard feelings, but nobody is going to take a post like that seriously.

Hey, leave him alone. That's how they speak in the bayou of Louisianna. AHARRA HARRA HARR! j/k
I have the Vig2800. My car runs very well with it and is also very streetable with 3.73 gears, but I am now about to upgrade to a Yank TP4400 which is probably too much in some peoples view for street use.
