To play devil's advocate, it must be accelerating FASTER, because even though his was moving at a higher rate of speed, you got there first...sounds like MAD! acceleration to me...

It's accelerating A LOT faster out of the hole, and good luck to the M6 guy trying to catch up. Without a lot more power, he won't do it. Last time at the track, I was racing an full bolt-on cammed M6 guy trapping at 114 and he would have to play catch-up until right at the finish line. I would lose by a tenth or so, but I wasn't embarrassed. I'm doing more with less.

I am a sucker for good marketing and all, but a B&M (proven) is only $50...how much cheaper could auto-zone be!?

Guys come on, everyone knows an auto car with a big converter will beat most M6 cars. Look at the fastest street cars, pretty much all autos. An auto is consistent where the m6 is not. If you like to really drive the car, get the M6.
Stanger88, if have a chance to drive an LS1 with say a 4k converter I think you'd change your mind about automatics.

I wouldnt say that, ive walked the dog on several Auto cars from a dig, all it takes is a good driver. A good driver with an M6 > stalled 4 speed anyday.

I think an M6 with an excellent driver and gears will easily hang with (or beat) a stalled auto, from any speed, dig or roll. The problem is most people aren't pro's at manual, and therefore the stalled autos tend to usually win

Wow lets please not start another one of these. Looks like another M6 driver wandered into the wrong forum.

i can break stall my car to over 1500 rpm's standing on the break. i'd say it's around ~1600. i'd never trade my A4 in for an M6, even with the stock stall. i love the relaxing cruise it offers. plus i can change my radio station and have my arm out the window while driving. try doing that with an M6 during acceleration.

for me it's the simple things that make driving a pleasure. the A4 lets you enjoy them more. i rarely ever race the car, so why sacrifice all the easy driving and relaxing pleasures for the couple times you roll race?

Thats merely your opinion, I personally disagree.

What makes driving a pleasure it having complete control over the car. Being able to drive the car the way you want, not the way the computer or transmission wants you to drive. Its a bad idea to be adjusting the radio station under heavy acceleration anyway, auto or stick.

Once I'm at cruising speed I can put my arm out the window or adjust the radio station all I want. I think manual is incomparably more fun to drive because you're actually driving the car, not just pushing the gas and pointing the wheel where you want to go. Sorry if you don't feel the same way

Hey - auto or manual - they're both great and I'd own both if I could afford it, like I do with my 69 GTO's. But what caught my attention was the idea that the 320rwhp A4 guy who beats the 420rwhp M6 ought to feel embarrassed about his car. An exceedingly curious notion, to say the least. In the world I live in, the M6 guy is the one with the red face.

oh man... this thread makes me wanna buy a Roadmaster and drop a T56 in it while keeping the caprice for drag duty. I find it kinda ironic that the T56 is the street trans, and the 4L60E is the drag trans. run that by some 1960's drag racers.

I dont want this to be a flame thread, but I am trying to make a decision A4 or M6 and all opinions are welcome.

You seem arguementative when people are telling you the advantages of A4's and it seems like your trying to get someone to talk you into a M6.

Take a ride in a stalled car.

BTW my auto car trapped 107 with a lid only.

ive been planning on getting a streetable stall for my lt1 now.. The only problem i have is im afraid ill end my tranny or rear quickly and be broke as hell. But from all the info ive gathered sitting here on the computer for hours theres nothing like a stalled auto so if your going straight line get an auto a cooler and stall it.

yes, it's just my opinion. i like not having to worry about shifting most of the time. also, the added comfort that if **** hits the fan on the road i have one less thing to occupy my time helps, too. and no, i don't play with the radio at full throttle. i rarely go full throttle in my car

Just for the sake of correct information, the stock stall rating is 1600-1800 stall speed with a 1.8 str, not the 1200 1.1str that was floating around.

The whole manual vs. auto debate will never end. They can both be equally fast if you've got the money to do it. Let it go.
