Default tranny fluid Q....

i have an 01 z28 a4, just got it a year ago. yesterday i went to check all the fluids and when i checked the tranny it was right at the hash mark...do i need to add more fluid?? and how would i go about adding more fluid??

i guess it would be consider a cold start check, i only let the car on for about 10 minutes or so didnt drive it and than checked the tranny fluid. but the temp gauge read 210. so im also confused as to what is considered a cold and a hot check.

was the fluid warm when you checked? sounds like you're fine. when you need to add just read from the hash and fill appropriately into the dipstick tube with a small funnel. i got one from walmart for cheap that worked perfectly

If it's shifting fine you're probably OK. A cold check is when you let the car sit for 8+ hours w/o turning the engine on, and is only a "reference". Believe you need to drive the car, then run through the gears with your foot on the brake, stopping for a couple seconds in between each shift, then check. Mine was a PITA to get right after my TC install. Owners manual has the procedure.

i went on a 60 mile trip and just got back right now, i checked the fluid and its now on the hash mark middle area. what brand fluid should i use ?? i was also thinking about having it changed, i havent had it changed since i got the car almost 10k ago, and dont know if the previous owner did. the fluid it self looks in good condition not black. should i just bring it in to the dealer ship to let them flush it??

just buy some Dexron mercon III (any brand that is non-synthetic) and you'll be fine. you can wait longer to change it. when you do get a filter also. this si something you can do no problem.
