Default Trans getting Hot or Converter??? Which ONE?

Ok, This weekend I would back up to the waterbox & clean the tires off & then pull to the edge of the waterbox & do my burnout. Then pull up to the lights & stage. Out of 6 runs 3 of them the converter felt really lazy & launched really soft like a 2.0 60ft & on the norm I pull low 1.7 60fts, On one run I can hear my car knocking. I thought I blew my motor & pulled the car over & let it cool. Went back about 30 mins later & the car started up fine & the knocking was gone. I was even able to make a pass too, then went home.

Is my trans getting hot to cause a knocking noise or is it the converter & do you think I did any damage?

Also I have a Stage II trans from Phoniex with the Anti ballon Plates & beefier insides. My converter is a Yank PT 4400

Thanks
Seb

A transmission temperature guage would be a good investment.
After running one on my TH400 I reccomend everyone run a tranny temp guage.
Its very interesting to see exactly where your temps are.
Considering heat is THE biggest cause of transmission failure running a temp guage for the tranny is just plain smart in my opinion.

+1....hot days in Little Rock would see me cruising at 180 and 200 in the city. Now it's cooled down a bit and cruising sees 150 while city sees 180. Think I might go with a deep pan or another cooler before next summer.

So a deep tranny pan keeps the trans cooler? Also I cruise around at 200 210 on my temp gauge on my formula. But I think that is the Temp for the Motor & not the trans.

Transmission heat output just adds to the
radiator coolant temp, on a car with stock
fan settings this is just one more hurt (fans
don't run until way too late). That's pretty
likely how you get to knocking. Run the fans
early and the tank and radiator heat exchanger
get better cooling.
