I don't think that one planet is faster than the other. The straight cut planets are supposed to be stronger and were used in HD truck applications.

the thing with straight cut teeth is the thrust load. We do alot of powerglides for dragster and near 600-700 hp we find the ring gear thrust rearward and rub on the pressure plate for the reverse pack. with a straight cut gearset not even our customers that run 6's have any problems. the only way that a straight would be faster is due to the fact that you could run a smaller lighter gear with equal strength, becuase with a helical cut tooth you have more contact on hte tooth. the only advantage to a helical cut is that it doesn't make any noise. next time you hear an allison 1000 take off that cat meowing sound is due to the straight gears.
