Default tailhousing keeps breaking

last wk my tail housing broke while on the dyno.so I ordered a built tranny one from a reputable comp. and on the dyno with the new trans.the same thing happened. The new tranny is fine but for some reason during deceleration something is causing the tailhousing to break. What can this be?alignment issue maybe?

Maybe driveline flex loading up the torque arm and tailshaft. Try swapping out your motor and tranny mounts for poly ones.

tranny mount is #1 cause of it. guy local here busted one on the dyno with a stock torque arm. that lightweight aluminum cant take the stress sometimes.
get it off the tailshaft, and youll be good.
spohn FTW.

Do you have a steel or aluminum driveshaft? I have seen this with steel driveshaft equipped cars i.e. 2.73 cars with bolts ons.

Like already stated, it's almost always cars with steel driveshafts that break the tailshaft housings. Steel driveshafts will break them even with the torque arm mount relocated. Get an aluminum driveshaft.

I had a Spohn trans mounted TA and an aluminum DS...Not sure what went first, but it ended with a split tailshaft and a DS that looked like it was cut in half by a steak knife on the dyno...I switched to a cross brace mounted Spohn TA and a good 3" steel DS and have had zero issues...Get the TA off of the trans...

Another vote for getting the TA off the tailshaft. Its one of the best things you can do.
250 bucks aint the cheapest but it will solve all your problems.

well like I mentioned I got the poly transmout, bmr relocation bracket and had the driveshaft balanced and checked out.I was just wondering why Im just learning about this about the tailshaft.I did not even considered taking the TA off the tailshaft before.I thought you had to make a ton of power before I had to worry about it,and after posting this thread I realized it did not take much to damage the tailshaft, maybe someone put this in the stickies so that more people will look into this more and just get the relocation bracket and poly trans mount before adding more horse power.I know most people want to spend their money on go fast parts, but I guess its better than leaning the hard way and having the tailshaft go out on the track or wors on the street. So I hope this it put in the stickies to help more people out,cuz its not an issue that is brought up alot, but when I posted it I could tell that it was more common than I thought. Thanks for everyones feedback and stories reguarding this issue and like I said I hope that this is made a sticky so others will learn
thanks
john

driveshaft's dont' acause that, the load the tranny sees from the tq arm is what does it lik posted above. Why GM mounted the one part of the rear suspension that sees the most load to the transmission.. is beyond me.
