Default Big stall bad for tranny?

Hey guys. I own a 99' A4 z28 with 3.73 gears and a SLP Loudmouth cat-back exhaust. I'm told the most important mod for my car is a big stall. I figure if I spend that much money I might as well go all the way , so I've been thinkin about getting a 4000 stall. I live in Michigan so my car is only drivable during the summer and the begining of fall so it's not really a daily driver. I plan on doing a lot of mods this winter and next summer as well. I talked to some other ls1 owners, and they said a 4000 stall will destroy my tranny in no time. Was just wondering if it would be a bad idea to go with such a big stall with just a stock tranny or are they just being paranoid?

The only down side to big stall is heat get a good cooler , The shift kit will however help the feel of the shifts alot since the converter dampens the feel of them considerably particulary bellow stall

A high stall speed puts you onto peak torque. A high STR
multiplies from there. Well different than the stock situation.
Nobody can tell you it won't hurt. Play anyway.

Get the TransGo shift kit man. I crack up everytime I smack mine and it hits 2 nd so hard that it barks the tires with such force that the back end jumps to the right. Sure makes the car more fun to drive to. Mines also got a 3000 stall. But I'm going to a 3600. Going from a stock converter to the 3000 picked my car up half a second at the track. Get the stall you will NEVER regret it and the cooler also.

I personally don't think you need to go that high with a converter. Guys with LS1's and really large cams usually only go up that high. Talk to the guys at Yank, they should be able to set you up pretty well. I kinda wish I went a little higher with mine (maybe 3400) but I'm still happy. My suggestion is don't overkill but go too low. Get the biggest cooler they make and a shift kit. Trans Go or B&M Transpack.

I've had a Yank SS 4000 in my every driver for over a year now. No problems at all. If you're not going to spray it, I say go big. This is the convertor that yank told me to run with my setup. Definately get a shift kit and cooler though.
