Default ? for those with aftermarket trans coolers

On average what should the trans temp of a car be at with a B & M 19k cooler? Yesterday while ATAPing the car it showed something like 209. Granted it was hot outside (106 deg.) but this seems a little high. Any input is greatly appreciated.

my goal is not to see trans temps of 200* or higher. I'd go with a 160 T-Stat and matching fan settings. It will keep the motor and tranny cooler.

Does the cooler come after the radiator? If not, you are not getting the maximum capability from the cooler.

Thanks for the help Ragtop. I'd like to ATAP in cooler weather but it doesn't seem like it will cool down for a while out here in California.

So where exactly is the best place to mount the cooler? And can you fit a 25k there as well?

I couldn't mount it in that spot due to the FTRA so I mounted it up on the plastic air deflector on the passenger side of the car.

That is a bit hot, but I do have a 25k. I've never seen over 180 or so, on the hottest day and lots of abuse. Usually 130-150ish.

Mine's mounted horizontally off the air dam on the passenger side though. No heatsoak from the radiator and stuff but no fans either (works fine without them though).

I doubt it is the fluid level; most of the time low fluid also shows up with other problems such as bad shifting.

If you have a stock T-stat and fan settings, it is very likely your coolant temp is around 200* or a bit higher. Therefore, the stock radiator cooler isn't pulling much heat because it is surrounded by very hot coolant. Additionally, your fans are running less often. The fans make a significant difference in tranny cooling assuming you mounted to tranny cooler on the AC condensor.

Try ATAPing on a 90 degree day and see what happens. 106* is f**king hot outside! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
