There isn't a beefed up 4L60E on the planet that'll hold under a 500 rwhp 408 with a 200 shot. If you are intent on doing this then call Yank and get one of thier N20 converters. But I'm telling you right now as someone who is in the middle of a very similair setup that a TH400 or 4L80E is a far better idea.

Good luck.

Lots of people have sprayed 150 shots on that converter so I don't think a 200 shot will be a problem in a 408 as long as the cam is good and you spinning at least 6800 rpm's.

It can be stage 3,000 and you're still going to be in trouble

You're going to be a 9.xx car and the 4L60E's just don't hold in the single digits no matter who builds them. Just don't be surprised if the transmission doesn't make it through a full season. If it does then consider yourself lucky.

You could send it to Kevin @ TCI for an inspection and if need be a rebuild. Still be cheaper then a new converter. Or you can just run it and see how it goes.

actually...i think there are a couple cars in the 9s with built 4l60e transmissions. however, i agree that the odds are against this feller when it comes to getting a 4l60e to endure any kind of abuse.

i say th400 + transbrake. get an n2o 4k stall and spray the holy hell out of it. spray off the t-brake, spray through the shifts, hell..spray it in the water box too, a built th400 will laugh at you.

Not sure. I would call TCI and ask for Kevin. He's a great guy to deal with and he'll be able to give you the rundown on prices if anything even needs to be done at all.

Cablebandit was the only one I knew of on this board but he quickly switched to a 4L80E. I know a few have gotten there but it seems like they never stay there. That was enough for me to decide on a 4L80E for my 408 setup

For about $165-$175, they will cut it open and rebuild it and even re-stall it if you want. Which converter? If it's the StreetFighter, you can only re-stall to 4000.

No offense to you sir but all builders have to say that. Yet there is still a very good reason that people running consistent 9's do not do it with 4L60E's.

500 rwhp. I have no doubts a good 4L60E will last awhile. 700 rwhp + near stock weight is a whole different ball game.

Exactly! Had a Rossler Terminator 3 4l60e in my car at first. Dyno'd over 620hp on the spray and the trans lasted for 5-6 dyno pulls and to track runs before 3rd and 4th started slipping. the trans did take a real beating in my cam/TNT only car.

The 4l60e's just arent going to hold the power. You will be better off going 4l80e. Thats what I did.
