what trans to go with
i have a 97 ws6, right now its a 383 lt1 on obdi1, 3200 rpm stall with 3.73's. i had the 4l60e built for street/strip use. the tranny feels strong, and acts normal on the street, but at the track it has its own agenda, some days it works, other days it a pain. after 2 years of this, i pretty much pulling the trans out and go to something different.
i've been thinking of getting either a 700r4 or 200r4 with a manual valve body, i'd like to keep overdrive on the car, as its still a street car to me, and i have to drive it 2 hours to the track.
what are your opinions on each, or would you go with a different setup

its the obdi stall issue, not shifting into 2nd under wot. i have logs from my last day at the track. once i leave the line, the log shows a trans dtc code for the vehicle speed sensor.

I believe that you have a tunning issue. I'm not familiar with the earlier obd system. I do know with the later system you can have the shift points changed. Also if you are getting codes because of a stall maybe you can deleate these tests along with the codes and all will be well. Have you spoken to a tuner about your issues? Sorry I can't be of more help, Vince

i have tuning with madz28. we've tried multiple times....just to come to this point. also i do have tuning software and have tried adjusting shift points.
the code is 'vss singal loss', error 72 in datamaster. if i shut the car off, the vss will respond again and the trans will operate normally.

i've done everything execpt for changing the sensor that you mentioned.
i ran the car in september, had no issues, made no changes and went back in october, and couldn't get one run in cause of the mis-shifting issue. i've spoken with the tuner, and it sounds like the programing fix won't fix this, guess its known to happen with obdi and stalls over 3000 rpm and sometimes can't be fixed.
