Default Recommend me a conveter for a new setup (TH350)

Currently I have a 4l60e with a vig 3200. The car has stock 3.23's and a stage 2 h/c. I don't have any dyno graphs. I have some issues to be worked out with the motor, but as soon as it's done I will be installing a th350 w/o a brake.

Assuming I stick with the 3.23's untill they break and do not go to a gear steeper than 3.42's, what conveter would be a good choice? With this current setup I don't have enough stall speed to take advantage of the h/c getting out of the whole. 60' is the same as it was with bolt ons. The other problem is after the 2-3 shift the rpm's drop LOW. About 4300 or less after a 6500 shift. I'm thinking of something like a 3800 stall in order to get the revs up for the 60'. I don't quite understand what is needed to lose less rpm's on the shift. Can somebody fill me in?

i want to be able to run on DR's on the street and have them hook only semi-descent. I will be on ET streets for any serious racing. The car will see maybe a 100 shot once all the bugs are worked out NA. I am thinking about a vigi 3600 or equivalent. I figure the stall speed on it would be about 3900.

A YTP 4200 would be a good choice. Its going to be loose with 3.23s but you'll be able to pedal the launch on the street. It can handle 100 shot but I wouldn't spray more than that. It will hold 5400 - 5600 rpm on the upshift (NA) depending upon your torque curve. You'll hold 5800+ on the upshift with the bottle, which is not ideal, but with a 6500 shift point you'll be ok.

I would drop to 4,600 RPM on the shifts when shifting at 6,200 when I was running stock internals, a Vig 3200, and 3.23's. Are you upgrading to the 2.75:1 1st gear trans ratio or going w/ the stock one (2.52:1 ???)? With 3.23's, the same stall as you have now will not hit as hard off of the line. Also, you're going to be using the converter a LOT to get the car moving. I had a TH350 with a 4,600 stall and 3.73's in my '98 T/A, and it SUCKED to drive around. FYI, the Vig 3200 actually stalls 3,700-3,800 behind a stock-internal LS1. I know that it did in my SS w/ all of the bolt-ons. So, a 3,800 stall for the TH3500 wouldn't be much more, if any, than what you really have now.

If you're looking to drive the setup around on the street at all, then I'd go with a 4,000 stall and 3.73's. It's gonna suck on the highway no matter what, so you might as well make it decent in town. JMO

The vig3200 seems to be more like a 3600 with stock internals on my car. I am not upgrading to the 2.75:1 1st gear. By saying not hitting hard off the line you mean it doesn't "hit" as hard, or it won't 60' as well overall? I do see your point that 4,000 or maybe a tad more will be ideal for me, but about the conveter, what will keep it from dropping real low on the rpm's on shifts?
