Default Powerglide questions

How strong is a oem 1.76 gearset in a glide?
Who builds a good glide for a good price?
How much power can a 6 clutch pack setup take?
What is the weight difference between a glide and a th400?
Is it alright to use the same converter out of my th400?
thanks

400 converter will not fit a oem glide. That's why 99.9% have a custom input shaft. I don't know exact weight, but my dedenbear glide is much easier to carry than my JW 400. I have never used a 6 clutch so can't offer opinion. I do know my 10 is awesome.
Good & price depend on use. My 1st glide was $4250, 2nd was $4750.00. Didn't like the price, but look at what I use it for.

I have seen people say the glide is 30-40pounds less than a th400.
My car weighs 3150 with me in it. I mainly want to know will stock 1.76 gears in the tranny take 950fwhp. There is a big price difference when you get into the aftermarket gear sets.

with a long shaft your talking about 6-700 SAFELY! yes it probabley will work but you will be on borrowed time. i know a super streeter broke one, took a while but it happened. the glide is about 30-40 lbs less, take about 15hp less to turn and has a much much lower moment of inertia to it. you can use the th 400 converter if you use a turbo spline glide (which is required at over 700hp). if your over 600 hp we recommend a 300m vasco input. as far as a six pack, i have run six raybestos blues with 1200hp n/a and 1400 on spray. i would recomend a dedenbear case for rigidity if your in the 700-800hp range too. as a rule of thumb 2800 to 3000 lbs is range for a glide, the reason is the gear ratio in first gear, you may run better with a lower first, it will work it just may not be as fast.

I was hoping I didnt need one of those fancy cases. I am going to call rossler and see what he thinks. Those cases are expensive. Seems like every builder tells me something different. I am going to try ckperformance. They have a stage 3 that they claim to take 1400ftpounds for under 2grand

weve had several cars in the 8 second zone with the stock oem planet and 3400 lbs live with them.its not reccomended but they do work.our loisting on the site and reccomendations are based on real world data collected at the track.the cases are necessary in cars with poor suspension ,over 1000 horsepower and heavy weights.
