Default Please help with 4L60E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just did a 6 speed to A4 swap.At first the trans shifted fine. Got the A4 in and put no more than 200 miles on it and it started this. It would not shift into drive. The 1st to 2nd shift is fine, but when it goes from 2nd to drive it feels like the car just slips. Any ideas on what could be wrong? The trans has been built and has a 4000 stall.

well unfortunatly if the 1-2 shift feels good and it is trying to make the 2-3 shift and just slips o neutrals you most likley have a 3-4 clutch failure

Do you know the main reason clutchs fail? Is this a common problem with the 4L60e?

Thanks for your help.

well not knowing how old the trans is new build or what it would be hard to say ,
Some causes would be
1-low line
2- wear
3-band clutch overlap (improper shift kit install)
4-wear in the pump stator where the sealing rings ride (easily missed)
5- 3-4 clutch seal cut or rolled

Are just a few , The 3-4 clutch set in the 4l60e is inherently weak and should be upgraded for any performance use .

I was told Its a relatively fresh build with a basically new converter. I did notice something werid about the trans from the first time i drove it. The 2nd to drive shift was firmer than the 1st to 2nd shift while I was crusing. Would this be a sign that something was not wright with the trans?

Would you do a full rebuild or just go in a look then replace the worn out parts?

depends on the general shape of the trans , I do know that PBA a member here does offer kits while we do not , We do offer complete units as you may check out on our website ,

well that is backwards to usual and could again be a sign off excessive clearance in the 3-4 clutch , Give amount of force applied over a given amount of time as the travel time increases the speed is higher so the impact might be greater at least at first ,
but of course its all guess work till you get it apart but if the 3-4 clutch clearance was high and this was a sudden even the impact may have broken the retaining ring out of the 3-4 clutch . Hammer impact thing , Not to be confused with a firm solid shift like you get with a shift kit ,

Here in Mexico is too bad tranny.

Just me, already broke 4 trannys, well, I repaired 4 times, Today, I bought the tranny of a friend who used in a Z28 with a 4500 - 5500 stahl converter and that tranny NEVER was opened, well, just for Trans Go install, but all the components are original, that car is a 11´s car and never burn it.

I hope that is better to buy this one, than repair again mine or buy new one to repair.
