Torque Converter advice needed
Hey guys, I just wanted to know what T/C everyone here like the best. I put a Yank TP4400 in my car over the weekend and I'm not very happy with it. It is VERY sloppy and I think it is too much converter for a stock car. Kinda makes the car drive like crap. It flies from a roll but pulling away from a stop light it either creeps down the road or it blows the tires off. I have 3.73 gears on order and they should be in any day now. I'm gonna try putting those in and see if they help at all. If not, I will be pulling this converter out and either buying a different one or putting the stock one back in and just driving it with the gears. Has anyone done just a gear swap without changing the converter and how well does it work? I was also thinking about the SLP 3300 stall converter. Does anybody out there use this one and how different is it over stock? I hope it is not as sloppy as this TP4400 or I will just keep the stock converter. Oh yeah the NX kit is also coming off the car so that will not be a concern. Almost had a meltdown but it only burned the plug not the piston so I'm getting rid of it before I do more damage.

IMHO the 4400 is too much stall on a street car. With the 3.73s you are installing a Vig. 3200 or a Yank ST3500 will give much better driveability. If you want driveability even closer to stock try the Yank 3000 or the Vig. 2800.
The 3.73 gears will help a bit, but you bought a monster stall and it will be loose no matter what you do. If you had edit (which you could use to correct for your gear ratio), you could raise the part throttle shift points which would help tighten it up.
The SLP 3300 and 3.73s will feel MUCH tighter than what you have now. A better solution for street use would be to call Yank and see if you can trade the YTP 4400 for a SuperYank 3500. If you just bought the converter from them, the charge may be pretty small to do the swap. 3.73s blow the tires away easily and the low STR of the SY 3500 makes it easier to launch and performs very well from a roll.
If you swap to the SLP 3300, you might consider keeping your current gears (3.23s??) and seeing if you like it without swapping gears.
