Default Who is still using a rubber mount?

And how fast are you going?

Any 11, 10 second cars still on the rubber tranny mounts? I don't hear of a lot of them breaking under the 4L60E but a lot of people change them anyway. Just wondering if I really need them or if I should switch back to smooth out my ride again.

Letsndy on here (11's) is a 6 speed guy and he's been running his with a bunch of low 1.7 60 ft times. I went back to the stock rubber one at a track day and my first pass it tore. I normally 60 ft mid-late 1.60 ft times.

I guess it's a moot point at this rate to swap back to the stock one for smoothness seeing that my lca's, phb and torque arm all have poly bushings.

Yeah but the transmission mount will cause much more vibration than any of those.

I think after my suspension is fully done in the spring, I will see how it is once everything is dialed in right and all the angles are correct. If I can't get it smoothened out I may try the rubber mount. I have a fairly new, ~5k mile mount in the garage to use.

Actually it didn't.

Didn't smooth out anything at all really. At that point with the poly torque arm mount and the rear suspension bushings being poly the car felt the same with the new rubber mount compared to the well broken in poly.

To clear things up for me one of my friends tried it too (with the exception of him having aftermarket shocks in the mix) and at that point noticed no difference in going back to the stock mount. Now had we had the stock suspension/chassis pieces back in place there would be a difference.

There was a member on here a while back that took a stock GM mount and filled the holes with some type of either silicone or strong adhesive. This made the mount more durable and would resist tearing but would allow some flex. He had pics of it (it was at least two years ago). He swore he could launch HARD and not damage his trans mount and wouldn't ever go back to a poly mount again.

Wish i could dig that thread up....

I don't see how you can compare the two. Vibrations caused by RPM's are not to be confused by a crappy ride from either shocks, control arms, or any other suspension part for that matter, which only really become noticeable when you hit bumps in the road.

Yes I did compare the two, a before and after test. So did a friend. No confusion when you see that the torque arm is connected to the trans and now has a poly bushing too. Try doing a torque arm bushing swap to a poly ONLY and see how your RPM related vibration will go up.

Oh, and you don't need to hit bumps in the road for upgraded suspension parts to become noticeable, it's very apparent on smooth roads too.

FWIW, my pinion angle is at -2 and I forgot to mention poly endlink bushings front and rear.

Just trying to help out and hopefully more people with experience can chime in.

Probably used windshield urethane to fill the mount. Comes in a tube like caulk. Very firm, but not as firm as poly. Tape one side of the holes shut, just start filling it. Takes FOREVER to set completely! Don't expect to squirt it in there and bolt the mount back on in an hour or two.

That sounds like it could be it, he was convinced never to use a poly mount again and said this mount would handle some hard launches.

I'm still on the original mount with no cracks or problems.
