Compare and Contrast 4l60E and 4l80E
Okay i'm making 650 rwhp and cutting 1.4 60's footbraking a 4l60e. I am VERY nervous about my transmission everytime i'm at the track. Long story short, I want a transbrake - I see Rossler can supply one with a 4l80E. I also understand the 4l80e weighs more and robs some hp? I have a TH400 ready to go in my garage; however, I don't want to give up OD. The ONLY reason I have to not use the TH400. So given my situation what are the pros and cons about a 4L80E for my use??

4l80 vs 4l60 wieght won't be such a drastic thing once you get the 80lb converter off the trans. The factory converters are big heavy power robbing pigs. the differnce HP consumption wise between the 4l60 and 4l80 is 32hp for the 4l60 and 43hp for the 4l80e. At you power level it should be nominal. Just make sure to get a reputably built 4l80e from a good transmission rebuilder.

I have a Yank in my car for the 4l80. It is a badass converter. Call Dave!!! He will hook you up. You dont even need to run a crank spacer. The converter fit perfrect! And saved my 100 + because I didnt have to buy a crank spacer.

Heres a list of what I bought to get mine to work:
2002 4l80e out of a GMC seirra (spelling)
Master rebuild kit, red eagle clutches
yank custom made 4l80e converter (3400)
yank cross member (torque are mount is on the crossmember instead of trans)
TH400 slip yoke (there are about 3-4 different ones depending on the output shaft)
4l80e dip stick tube
Speartech 4l60e-4l80e wiring harness
Dust cover
4l80eTrans mount
Sent my .BIN file to HPtuners and had it modified
I think thats about it. If I think of anything else Ill post it up..
