Default vent tube on top of 4L60E?

I dropped my motor and tranny in my car and i noticed a small vent tube on the top of the transmission facing toward the back of the vehicle. Does anyone know what the hell this thing is for?

It is just a vent to allow the transmission to breathe.

Or in my case, it allows the transmission to blow an extra quart out of the transmission because I was an idiot and overfilled it like crazy.
