Torque Converter...Sounds Great!
Im now convinced that a torque converter stalled at...say 3200 would be the best choice for a first mod, but im still confused as to how my car will drive. ive been told that i have to rev it up to the stall point (3200 rpm), and the car will finally start to move(?) or something like that. i dont really under stand, because i want a streetable car that wont be launching at 3200 rpms everywhere i go. help?
oh and ps what brand would you guys recommend?? im thinkin b & m???yes? no?

What rearend gear you running? What year car?
I'd look at a Yank or Precision Industries for converters. I recommend Yank SS3600 or a Vig3200 for an LS1, both will be very drivable on the street.
Don't be confused about stall speed both of these will start moving the car well before there rated stall speed. Car will start moving at idle and accelerating easily at 1200 rpm plus.
Do it once, do it right. You get what you pay for.

i say for any street car with bolt ons or just stock should look into a ss3400.. and depending on the str of the stall and your rearend gear you should keep up with trafic at about 2100 rpms...depending on how hard you drive her...
Its a little more complicated than that
The converter does not wait till the stall rpm to move under light throttle rather its a linear pull this means the transfers torque to the transmission increasingly more as you aproach the stall rpm , Its is less noticable under light throttle that theres a high stall and become very aparent when you get on it suddenly , Im sure there are those who can give a more technical version and its a little more complicated but basically its alot like spinning water with a stick in a bucket you start spinning slowly and the outside water pretty close to staying with you but if you stir suddenly very fast it takes a moment for the water to catch up ,So it could be said that though all this happens in miliseconds with the higher stall you the faster you come into throttle the more time it takes to catch up but when it does you are in your torque band and GO GO ,
As long as you use the smaller 9 to 10 inch converters for the higher stall above 2500 you will be quite happy with the everyday driving streetablity, I would sugest a 3000 to 3500 unit 9.5 stall ,

Like said early it will move at idle and start to move with light throttle.. Stall speed is the point in which the converter is hydrallicly locked and multiplying the most amount of torque. Hence the reason you want to match the stall speed to your engine torque curve.. With that being said 3500-4000 are the most popular stall speeds for LS1 cars with a stock or mild / medium cam With no power adders...
well basicall its completely stock right now...i dont know the gears in the back its a 1999 z28...it would actually be helpful if anyone knows what its geared in the back
