Default Is my Torque Converter screwed?

I went to the track Friday night for the first time since my 3.73 gear install. I noticed that I was shifting from 1-2 around 35 at redline, 2-3 at somewhere around 50-60 at redline and 3-4 at exactly 82 and was hitting the rev limiter. I reprogrammed the shift points from 3-4 up 3 MPH and it shifted w/o hitting the limiter. From my post below I was told that most likely my torque converter was acting up. So is that what it sounds like? I just committed to buying a TP4400 from another guy on this site. What else should I buy to help the trans handle this torque converter and how difficult will the install be?

You should not be shifting to 4th with 3.73's in a 1/4 mile. I have run a ST3500 with 3.73's on 26" tall tires at 109 mph and never shifted to 4th. I think your gear/tire height settings are screwed up with the HPP3.

My tire setting on the HPP3 is 25.75 inches. That should be as close to accurate as is possible correct?

This may sound like a stupid question, but are you sure the shop put in 3.73's and not 4.10's? A4's finish the 1/4 mile in 3rd with 3.73's. I've never seen one, but I've heard that A4's with 4.10's will shift into OD before the end of the 1/4 mile. That's the correct tire height for stock tires.

What year car is it? I've seen posts where early HPP3s don't get the gear change right w/out some tire height "tweaking". Not sure what years, might be 99? Try this link or search for "fuzzy math" in this forum.

dude, that's wierd. I shift from 1-2 where you shift 2-3!!! I've got 3.23's but still, for that gear change, I can't see the car changing that much

Hey thanks... Setting the tire height higher sounds like another thing to try...

He is running 1/8th mile guys. Wes, the car should be barely in 3rd in the 1/8th. That is the reason I looked at you funny when you told me it was hitting the limiter on the 3-4 shift at the track. You should be going into third about 100' or so from the traps. Good luck figuring it out.
