Not your normal problem!?! Hey guys and gals, As you ca see this is my first post but I have been getting info for a while here and it has always been right on and thank you for that.
I have just installed my motor and trans back in the car after letting it sit for about a year and a half (child) and when I went to start the car the tires started to move. I had it up on jackstands and when I saw that I made sure that it was in park and it was. So I tried it in N and it did the same thing. Every Gear was the same. Any help would be great! Thanks. Buck

First since you have it on stands , reach under it and unhook the cable from the shifter arm the rotate the lever clockwise as far as it will go , This should be park then reach over and try and turn the drive shaft it should turn just a little each way then stop ,
if it does then the trans end of the linkage is ok ,Then you will need someone to help you determine if the cable is moving correctly

Something has probably happen to the internal linkage you will need to drop the pan and check it

When you remove the pan you can easily see the shift shaft attached to a Rooster comb looking device. There is a nut on the shaft that can be loose. The Rooster comb interacts with a thin, wide spring piece of metal that has a roller on the tip of it . It is held in with one bolt. That is what provides the detent when you move your shifter. It could be loose.

Well Thinks guys for the help. I had my brother-in-law put the shifter cable on (I think everyone knows where this is going) and now it is shifting great... But thinks for everything.... Buck
