Default Neutral Safety Switch ????

How can I tell if my Neutral Safety Switch is positioned correctly? On a C5 auto. Vette.

You could view it by using a scan tool. Or there are some marks on the switch that need to be lined up before you torque it down. I have seen where the switch is worn out from the selector shaft. There is a mark on the main part of the switch along with the insert that rides on the selector, that have to be lined up.

If the switch is bad, or misadjusted, then the car won't start, right?? It won't even try...

Try holding the key forward with your foot on the break and move your shifter through the gears to see if it will start. If this works then you know what to look at.

So, if the car starts in park or neutral, but DOES start, and won't start in gear, then everything is fine. Right...

Vince @ FLT, when you guys build your 4L65E trannys for the C5 Corvette, do you guys use that vaccum line mod? If so, once installed in the car, sometimes a code will pop up, it has someting to do with the tranny. What code is that and why does it come up?

Thanks for your time and expertiese.

Yes if it will only start in park or neutral then all is good with the neutral switch. It is just a safty so that it won't start in gear. It does also tell the computer where you have the gear selector positioned as well.

We do build our units with or without the vac mod kit. We leave that choice up to the customer. I'm not sure which code you are referring to. The one that comes to mind is an epc code. The reason for this is because with the modulator you are replacing the epc. The kit comes with a resistor however we do not use it. We use an epc as a resistor. If you use the supplied resistor, sometimes it will throw a code for the epc circuit fault.

Thanks again..
