Question Which Trans. do I have 4L65E or 4L60E??

I'm getting ready to rebuild it and just wanting to know what I'm starting with.

I've heard that the only difference (on the outside) between the 65s and the 60s is the extra bolt hole at the top of the bell housing, is that true?

(if it is a 65) Do all 4L65's have 5 pinion planets?

I believe that you have a 4l60e. There are two ways to find out for sure. One is to look for the rpo code that I believe is in your glove box. It should say m30. Another way is to look at the case for a 3KZD code. It is located on either on sticker on the top of the main case or it is punched in the rear bottom of the case. Here is a picture of the stamp portion of the case.
