Default How does a Powerglide tranny work

And yes, I already wasted my time with the "search".

How does it shift: electronically like a 4L60E?

If not, does the shifter need to moved forward as you go forward and backwards to downshift? (I know some trannies are backwards)

How many gears does it have?

Can it run on the highway at a nice rpm?

Can gear vendors over drive work with it to make it a 4 speed like the 4L60E?

It's not electronic, other than the wire to the transbrake solenoid.

It has Park/Reverse/Neutral/2/1 for a ,amual valve body pattern. Mine is set up that way with a Pro Tree Trans Brake, stock 1.76 first gear/1.00 second gear. A gear Vendors can be done for sure. My builder said the stock 1.76 gearset should be good for 800-850hp and won't break unless you really chatter the tires.

I have 28" tires and a 3.73 gear which makes driving ok. At 3000rpm, It's nearing 70mph or so. Also running a Fuddle 5000 stall and I can get up to speed without going over 3000 rpm at half throttle. It's not much different than running a 4L60 without first and 4th gear. You won't want to cruise above that, 80-85 is out of the question.. Goodluck!

What can it do rpm-wise at 70-75 with a gear vendors OD unit?

And would this tranny be good for 50-200mph runs?

Or is it just a drag car tranny?
