Default TH350 overflow?

I was out cruisin with my buddies on the highway and in 3rd i would try to give it a little gas and the RPM's would jump up and the car would barely move. then one of them called me and said there was smoke comin from under the car so we pulled over and it was transmission fluid that had was on the Y pipe. after going home and jacking the car up i could not find where the leak was comming from but i a saw what looked like a hose on drivers side top of the tranny and looked like it might have been commin from there. i was thinking maybe it got too hot and this was some sort of overflow line or something?? if anyone could help me out here thanks in advance

That is the overflow tube. Sounds like the trans was overfilled and/or got hot-
