Default stall and the freeway?

I plan on putting my 3500 2.5 str stall in soon (just wait on the shift kit and tranny cooler) I have 3.23 gears and I was wondering what should I expect when flooring it from like 70. slower, faster, you know...please let me know.

It should pull a little harder on the highway with a higher shift extention. You might not notice a big difference, but it definately won't be slower.

Well, at 70mph and 3:23's you are on the verge of not getting a downshift, and yes if you gon't get that downshift it pulls much better than stock because the converter will flash up into higher RPM helping the dreaded "dead spot" feel by getting you up into the powerband. Nice car BTW

In my experience, it feels close to OEM. Let me explain:

It seems to me, when it downshifts, it TC almost has to spool a little bit. To me, if I select 2, at 70 MPH, and go WOT, it feels a lot better, but, if I let the tranny downshift from OD, it feels softer right off the bat. I know other people feel, from a freeway roll, that feel it doesn't feel quite the same. Now, from like 50 MPH and below, it feels way better, no argument.

Yeah, I can agree with that, and to be honest it almost feels a tad slower when you get that 4th to 2nd downshift but only when you hit the top of 2nd (69-70mph ish) at 60mph it feels much better.

My car definitely pulled harder from a highway roll. The STR is supposed to have something to do with that. The higher it is, the less efficient (and fast) it is supposed to be on the top end. My STR is 2.5 and it pulls just fine. But I guess a converter with a STR of 2.2 could be faster and more efficient up top. Yank told me the PT series converters would be very fast on the highway. The PT series STR is 2.25 I believe. Regardless, I just bought a SS4000 with a 2.6 STR.....I like the tightness around town which is another thing a higher STR will give you.

2-3 upshift doesn't drop as much as the 1-2. 3500 will help but a 4000 will make a big difference. My YTP 4200 really cooked on the highway. Holding 5200/5300 rpms with bolt-ons and 5600 with heads & cam. That converter kicked in about 10%+ torque multiplication on the 2-3 upshift (more on the 1-2) so the mph just kept building.

in all honesty, i doubt you'll notice a difference. your **** will definately make a lot more noise...

my experience with stall converters is this: anywhere between 0-60 you will feel a gain (slower the speed, the more gain..) as you approach 60 mph the gain diminishes...and over 60 mph, i noticed nothing in terms of a gain, except MAYBE a LITTLE bit of pull (which equated to a bumper against an equal trapping auto with the stock stall). shift extension did nothing for my trap speeds (with the stock cam..) so i doubt you'll notice any difference from any roll higher than 50-60 mph. odds are, if anything, it will be slightly slower...big stalls are notorious for eating mph on the big end in trade for low end pull.

From my exp with my LT1, higher stall converters really let the car come out of the hole good. Thats where the car needs to shine.

But on the freeway I notice that it feels spongy, it pulls but not as good as a tighter converter. You will lose power due to looseness of the converter. As also mentioned before you may not get the down shift.
