Default Problem with trans shifter cable, anyone else?

I got my trans in and put on a new shifter cable. My gears are not in position. It goes like this:

park=reverse
reverse=neutral
neutral=OD
overdrive=3rd
drive=2nd
2nd=nothing
1st=1st

How the hell did it get one off? Its like everything is off 1 tooth/gear. the cable is non-adjustible right? The cable bracket is in the right bolts on the trans (compared it to my buddys camaro). SO WTF?

I have seen the manual shaft twisted or mispositioned on the gate in the trans

There is a snap-clip on the cable down by the trans,
find the bracket and it's right there. Put it in Park by
the detent lever (I forget, but whatever puts the
detent lever closest to the cable head) and then
pull the cable to barely-snug and resnap the keeper.
Same deal as snugging throttle cables.

Yes, and the cable is adjustable. You should be able to pop the clip up and adjust it. Make sure the shifter lever on the transmission is in the same gear as the shifter in your car.

adjustable eh. Cool. Though the clip was nothing so it didnt go in. It was soo slim i cant see it effecting it that bad to make the throw that off. Guess well find that clip and put it back in and try to adjust it. He did a m6 to a4 swap, so at least we know the trans isnt screwed up.

Before adjusting the cable do this;

1) Disconnect the cable from the trans lever located on the driver side, right by the pan.
2) By hand, push the trans lever all of the way forward (this is Park position), then 2 clicks back (this is Neutral). Leave in Neutral.
3) Move the Shifter to the Neutral position.
4) Connect and bolt the cable to the trans lever.
5) Now have someone manually run through the gears (starting with Park), with you under the car verifying the trans lever and shifter are on the same detent or gear.

If you are certain the trans lever and shifter are on the same gear, then you need to adjust the cable.
