no 1st?
any trans guru's out there?
i have a 4l60 that seems to have lost 1st...
doesn't seem to have any other problems other than a lack of 1st gear..
oh, i replaced both the 1-2 and 3-4 soleniods. didn't help...
thanks

when you say no first does that mean it has a normal 2-3 and 3-4 shift and just starts in second? and are there any codes being set

You are correct. starts in 2nd. in fact, never goes in 1st downshift or other wise.
i have'nt ran the codes yet.(is on the list to do.)
other than the 1st gear issue, trans seems to shift fine.
fluid seemed fine when i changed the soleniods..
oh, the trans has 145k on it...

I would get those codes the answer is probably there , Holler at me when you have them

Im actually having the same exact problem, starts off in 2nd, even if i manually shift it to first it doesnt downshift to 1st. What is weird is last night i went for a drive and i had 1st, then i came to a stop light and no longer had 1st when i started moving again. I am thinking shift solenoid, because i had a problem with it a few months ago, seems electrical to me. No SES light though.
well if you have 2-3-4 ten the two shift solenoids are working ,
you might however want to check the 3-2 solenoid since the screen in it can become restricted. And may not set a code.

I drove a few days ago all night with 1st, now it wont go into first, i havnt had time to check the solenoid, no ses light though, do you guys think it could be the solenoid?

Since first is only the forward clutch and low sprag and solenoid is likley two solenoids on make first solenoid could be stuck on or off, Of note though a busted second gear accum can also cause a second gear start,

If i put it in 1st it does nothing, stays in 2nd, then i go from 2nd to 3rd to over drive
That sounds like limp mode , but its odd you have no codes

*UPDATE*
My problem has been solved.
apparently on blazers, the trans takes power from the ignition switch. i had 12V at the fuse block/switch. when you moved the gear selector into drive, the power dropped to 3V.
a $100 part and lots of labor later, i have a fully working trans. and i never even got under the truck....Hmmmm.

Ah I thought they had solved that in the later models .I remember that being and issue with early 4l60e trucks 93 94 , But good you got it fixed and it would explain the codes not being there too.
