on the 4l60E which one is the top and which is the bottom?

Find out which line has the rubber hose crimped on, and which just has the hose clamp. The crimped one is the high pressure line from the tranny.

crimped one is the return? and does the return go into the top or bottom of rad?

No the crimped one is from the trans to the radiator. The NON crimped would be the return line.

One the transmission the bottom line/fitting is pressure and the top is return.

And on the cooler, it is backwards (bottom = inlet, top = return). This is to keep contaminants in the cooler out of the trans.
